Having spent a lifetime working in hospitality around the Uk and the world I got involved in the Cornish events scene in 2007.

Matt at The Offbeat Bar – Carlyon Bay

Erecting and breaking bars for a one night event seemed an incredibly time consuming process in order to offer a second rate experience so my first mobile bar project started to take shape. In 2011 ‘The Cock And Balls Inn’ was launched – a double decker bus kitted out as a traditional Great British Pub . It was a much loved feature at events around Cornwall but was quite possibly the least mobile , mobile bar ever conceived. Back to the drawing board.

The concept was to build a mobile bar that could provide all the products and service of your favourite bricks and mortar venue but with the ability to truly get off the beaten track. It took me a while to find the right vehicle for my project but I finally settled on a four wheel drive 1956 Bedford RL ,ex Green Goddess fire engine. Having spent many months restoring and converting her I know her inside and out .

The next step was to find a suitable trailer for the bar. Eventually I came across a WW2 Searchlight trailer that ticked so many boxes it could have been designed for the very job.

Many months of restoration and construction followed and in  2016 ‘Offbeat Bars ‘ was launched with an epic Party ‘Cabarave’– 200 people in fancy dress dancing through the night to bands and Djs . A whirlwhind of events followed including The Masked Ball and Boardmasters.

In 2017 my  partner Amy and I  ‘Popped Up’ at Carlyon Bay for a 4 month stint and ended up staying for 5 years ,adding an 11 metre yurt with central fire pit and a mobile kitchen to the set up . We became known for our great food and entertainment.

Our time at Carlyon Bay will always have a special place in our hearts but it came with its challenges and so it was time for Offbeat Bars to evolve. This summer The Offbeat Bar, Crantock will open offering the same great food ,service and entertainment but in a bricks a mortar setting . Our logo remains the same , reflecting our roots and we still offer ‘pop up’ bars to cater for any size event , whether its an intimate marquee wedding or a high volume festival. With over 30 years of food and beverage experience you can rest assured you are in good hands

Cheeeeeers
